Move from GitHub Pages to Eurobase
This guide moves a site from GitHub Pages to Eurobase: the published files or the build, the base path and the domain. Your repository stays on GitHub; Eurobase deploys it on every push.
What moves where
| On GitHub Pages | On Eurobase |
|---|---|
Plain HTML in the branch root or /docs | Published as-is, from that root directory |
| A Vite, Astro or other framework build in GitHub Actions | Built by Eurobase; no workflow needed |
| Jekyll | Not built: publish its output or move to a supported framework |
username.github.io/repository | <name>.eurobase.dev, at the root path |
CNAME file | Domains, with the records Eurobase shows |
Step 1: Check how your site is built
- Plain HTML: a folder with an
index.htmlis published without a build. Only web files are published. The deployment lists the files it left out, such asCNAMEand hidden files. - A framework build: Eurobase builds Vite, Astro, Next.js, SvelteKit, Nuxt and other supported frameworks itself and runs them on V8 isolates. Commit exactly one lockfile.
- Jekyll: Eurobase doesn't run Jekyll. Commit the generated site to a folder and choose that folder as the root directory, or move the site to a framework Eurobase builds, such as Astro.
Step 2: Remove the repository base path
A project site on GitHub Pages lives under /repository/. On Eurobase it's served from the root of its address, so remove that prefix from your links and from settings such as base in Vite or Astro, or baseurl in Jekyll.
Step 3: Create the project
- Create an account, connect GitHub and install the Eurobase GitHub App on the repository.
- In Projects, select New project, choose the repository and its root directory, and check what Eurobase detected.
- Select Save and Deploy.
Step 4: Move your domain
- Before the move, lower the TTL of your domain's DNS records so the switch spreads quickly.
- In Eurobase, open Domains in the sidebar, select Connect domain, enter your domain and choose the project. Only the workspace owner can connect domains.
- Add the DNS records Eurobase shows at your DNS provider, then wait until Eurobase marks the domain ready.
- Once your domain serves the Eurobase app, remove it from the old platform.
Step 5: Turn off GitHub Pages
Once your domain serves the Eurobase site, remove the custom domain in the repository's Settings under Pages, then unpublish the Pages site. Delete any workflow that only deployed to Pages.
What doesn’t carry over
- Jekyll builds and Jekyll plugins.
- A plain HTML site has no custom 404 page: a missing file returns a plain 404. To get one, build the site with Vite or a framework.
- On a plain HTML site,
/aboutservesabout/index.html, notabout.html.
After the move
- Plain HTML sites: Deploy a static site.
- Every push to the project's branch deploys; roll back from Deployment history.
